Petroleum engineers are usually responsible for the design and development of methods for extracting oil and natural gas from deposits under the Earth’s surface. They are also responsible to find new ways for extracting oil & natural gas from older wells. There are three types of petroleum engineers:

Reservoir Engineers

Production Engineers

Petroleum engineers usually work from an office or work at the petroleum drilling well sites. They often have to travel frequently to these work sites for meeting other engineers, oilfield workers, and customers.

1. Design equipment for extracting oil & natural gas from onshore & offshore reserves deep underground.
2. Develop strategies to drill and extract oil & gas from the reserves, and then recover it in the most environmentally safe and cost-efficient way.
3. Develop innovative methods to inject water, chemicals, gas, or steam into this oil reserve to force out more oil or gas, thus increasing production.
4. Ensure whether the oilfield equipment is installed, operated, and maintained properly.
5. Evaluate and inspect the production of the petroleum reserve through surveys, testing, and analysis.
