Career in Petroleum Engineering | Amet University

Petroleum is presently one of the main sources of fuel used widely in the world and thus as career students find petroleum engineering as a very attractive and lucrative option. Graduates in Petroleum engineering are called Petroleum Engineers and this domain of engineering deal with the study of production of hydrocarbons such as crude oil and natural gas

Petroleum engineers are usually responsible for the design and development of methods for extracting oil and natural gas from deposits under the Earth’s surface. They are also responsible to find new ways for extracting oil & natural gas from older wells. As this domain demands a person to have a skill set to handle multiple operations, a petroleum engineer needs to have knowledge about many other disciplines of science such as geophysics, formation evaluation, drilling, petroleum geology, reservoir simulation, reservoir engineering, well engineering, artificial lift systems, economics, etc.
There are three types of petroleum engineers:

Reservoir Engineers

They help evaluate field performance opportunities, maximize the final value of a property and enhance the production of oil and natural gas.

Drilling Engineers

They handle the technical aspects of drilling and are responsible to implement safe and environmentally sound practices in the field operations and maintenance.

Production Engineers

They handle the interface between reservoirs and wells and are responsible for the management of oil and natural gas production operations. Production Engineers also assist to maximize profitability by increasing revenue and reducing operating expenses.

Petroleum engineers usually work from an office or work at the petroleum drilling well sites. They often have to travel frequently to these work sites for meeting other engineers, oilfield workers, and customers.

The following is a list of duties of petroleum engineers:
  1. Design equipment for extracting oil & natural gas from onshore & offshore reserves deep underground.
  2. Develop strategies to drill and extract oil & gas from the reserves, and then recover it in the most environmentally safe and cost-efficient way.
  3. Develop innovative methods to inject water, chemicals, gas, or steam into this oil reserve to force out more oil or gas, thus increasing production.
  4. Ensure whether the oilfield equipment is installed, operated, and maintained properly.
  5. Evaluate and inspect the production of the petroleum reserve through surveys, testing, and analysis.
The following is a list of skills expected from a petroleum engineer:
  • Inquisitive mindset
  • Leadership qualities
  • Lucid communication skills
  • Team player
  • Logical and problem-solving thinking skills.
Petroleum engineers find employment opportunities in
  1. Petroleum & Oil production companies
  2. Oil exploration organizations
  3. Petroleum Research Institutions
  4. Oil & Gas Refineries
  5. Private Oil manufacturing industries
  6. Gas production and manufacturing companies
  7. Colleges and Universities

Add old logs to the fire and let the fire burn more

Pre Sea Modular Programmes
Fight with all your might and it may still lead to a failure. Well, do you know the techniques involved? Maybe that can make a huge difference. Let you fight not go in vain, come refresh your skills, perhaps upgrade it with all that’s new to the area. Something learnt long ago could be easily forgotten. We tend to forget what we ate for breakfast, imagine 5 years ago!

This refresher will help you go back to what you learnt once and brush through the roots of all that you were taught. It could also help add to your existing skill set with new techniques and become more updated with the newbies. There’s always something to learn. Use this opportunity to make yourself confident in your area. Our training for fire prevention is very practical and helps you gain some hands-on experience. Although the training lasts for a day, it covers use of breathing apparatus, nozzles, hoses and extinguishers.

What more could one ask for in a training for fire prevention? We’re equipped with the best faculty with all the facilities you could benefit from. Register your space right away and learn from the best! We’re supported by the AMET University and all that you need is easily available. Come, be a part of us even if it means just one day. We’d be happy to have you on board.

Six reasons to graduate with a Petroleum Engineering degree

Petroleum engineering is a unique discipline; a graduate petroleum engineer in most instances would hold the knowledge of various engineering streams such as mechanical, chemical, civil, electrical and mining, also this the field requires one’s to have an understanding of geology. Therefore it is safe to assume this domain of engineering as a jack-of-all-trades.

Petroleum engineer’s expertise is needed in oil and gas extraction and production process. They help create design specifications and apply them to the end product. This is a domain that has helped shape the modern world, without which many of our advanced machinery wouldn’t function, factories won’t produce goods, all types of automobiles would be immobile, and there won’t be plastics, cosmetics, asphalt for roads and energy to run electric appliances. Petroleum engineers play a major role in meeting the supply and demand of crude oil globally with their creative ways to extract oil from below the earth. Engineers from different streams may be able to work in the petroleum field; however, unlike petroleum engineers, they would lack the necessary knowledge in geosciences to apply advanced technology for the extraction and production of petroleum efficiently. A graduate with a Masters in Petroleum Engineering is expected to have a very strong foundation in geosciences.

Here are a few reasons why one should consider applying for petroleum engineering:

The world always needs fuel to run

Petroleum engineers help locate, extract and maintain production of world’s oil and natural gas reserves. Thus, as long as we use fossil fuel there will always be a demand for petroleum engineers.

Get to study subjects from multiple domains

Petroleum engineering is an interdisciplinary field. Students of this discipline get to learn about geology, thermodynamics, chemistry, fluid dynamics, structural mechanics and much more.

Many options available in the petroleum industry

Extraction and production of petroleum requires engineers to possess a number of skill sets. Be it search & discovery of petroleum deposits or drilling of oil wells or ensuring safe extraction of petroleum they can choose to pursue their domain according to their respective strengths in the petroleum industry.

Lucrative Salary

Petroleum industry has one of the highest salary rates. The salaries of engineers pursuing this field increases proportionally to the cost of petroleum products in the global market.

Opportunity to travel across the world
As oil companies send exploration teams across the world to search for oil deposits, engineers in this field venture to different places as part of the team. This is a perfect job for those willing to travel across the globe without spending their personal money.

Want to make a difference

A petroleum engineer’s job is vital to global economy. Safer drilling procedures bring less harm to surrounding environment; efficient extraction can make fuel prices affordable to all and more productivity can increase quantity of available petroleum and related products in the market.
